Bowls is an uncomplicated sport, and we are keen to ensure that those who participate in our events can do so as easily as possible. This guidance document responds to some of the questions asked most frequently by players.
Bowls’ Big Weekend is an annual national event, designed to introduce more people to the sport of bowls. The event takes place over May bank holiday weekend (23-26 May), during which bowls clubs across the country open their doors to the public, offering free taster sessions, to get more people playing our sport. It’s a fun, inclusive event that welcomes people of all ages and abilities to try the sport in a friendly, supportive environment. The initiative aims to promote bowls as a modern, accessible activity that brings communities together while encouraging new members to join local clubs.
This year Bowls’ Big Weekend will run from Friday 23rd May to Monday 26th May, with clubs across the country hosting on different days over the weekend.
Club registration is closed! We had a record breaking year of over 800 clubs register to hose a Bowls’ Big Weekend event. If you did miss out this year, next years registration will open at the start of 2026.
Club resources have all been sent out to clubs and they have should arrived. If you haven’t received your club resource pack then please get in contact.
Yes! If you’re a Crown Green club then you can register to host Bowls’ Big Weekend sessions. Unfortunately registration has closed for 2025 and will open in early 2026.
Participation sign-up is now open and make sure you’re promoting your Bowls’ Big Weekend sessions and getting participants to sign-up via the Bowls’ Big Weekend website.
Yes, we will be sending out resources to support your Bowls’ Big Weekend sessions. We will be hosting training sessions, videos on how to market your sessions, communicate to new audiences, how to run a successful event and more!
